A selection of my favorite Urusei Yatsura characters.
Lum
Lum Invader (pronounced and sometimes romanized as Lamu) is a cute alien girl who once tried to invade earth with her family. After failing, she falls in love with Ataru and decide to become his wife against his will. Most of her classmates worship her but she always stays faithful to Ataru.
Ataru
Despite appearances, Moroboshi Ataru is in fact the main character of Urusei Yatsura. He is an energetic 16 years old boy who focus exclusively on "girl hunting". He pretends not to love Lum who disapproves of his hobby, even though his true feelings towards her are made obvious on a few occasions.
Shutaro
Mendo Shutaro is the heir of the rich and respectable Mendo family. He is a charismatic, handsome, rich and well-mannered boy. Also he is Ataru's archenemy and closest friend. All the girls are crazy about him, but he is engaged with Shinobu (while being secretely in love with Lum).
Shinobu
Miyake Shinobu was the girlfriend of Ataru before the first episode. She is pretty and gentle but can turn extremely dangerous if she gets angry, which often results in desks being thrown. She has her fair load of admirers including the boss of a juvenile gang, a cute fox and of course Ataru.
Ryuunosuke
Fujinami Ryuunosuke is a character introduced later in the anime. She is a girl raised as a boy by her violent, sea-loving father. She therefore developed a manly attitude and a quick-to-fight personnality. As a result, all the freshman girls are in love with her. But she longs for nothing more than to be feminine and to finally have enough money to afford a bra.
